A Long Long winter
It may have been along winter and its been a little frustrating not doing more on the boat but it has most certainly been a fun few months. Now, however, I am ready to start working on Lady of Lewis again! I've been popping over there every spare weekend I've had to check for leaks continue to strip stuff out and just make sure she hasn't fallen out of the cradle or something. so far every trip has had a pleasingly uneventful air about it.
Although its been freezing and miserable I have managed to get a reasonable amount done including:
stripped out everything from the saloon area
stripped out pretty much everything from the heads
removed all of the polystyrene sheeting that the previous owner had glued to the entire boat as headlining.......the mind boggles.
removed all the old electrics
epoxied the floor ready for new stringers and floor to go down
pained the hull sides in the saloon so that they are all clean and ready for new cabinet
Epoxying the floor was a particularly nasty job as it requires a very specific temperature which mean closing all hatches and putting a heater on. Mixed with the fumes of the epoxy I felt fairly high for a good few days after that.
I have also enlisted the help of my boyfriend with the electrical planning and we are almost ready to start sourcing everything ready for installation.
Next jobs:
Build frame for headlining - i want to be able to remove panels easily to access the various bolts and electrics that will run along the roof so plan to construct a frame which will have visible teak or cherry trim and panels covered in a white or very light vinyl that velcro onto the frame
Complete a second coat of epoxy on the floor
Cut stringers (floor frame) from marine ply using templates i have already prepared
Complete electrical plans
